When we talk about the fittest golfers today, the first name that strikes the mind is Bryson DeChambeau. The 28-year-old American professional golfer has worked wonders on building his physique. However, the golf hulk hasn’t always been so bulky. But his attitude was similar to the way it is today, even at a young age according to Josh Gregory.

Gregory once shed light on Bryson DeChambeau’s attitude

Performance Golf Coach and two-time NCAA champion Josh Gregory had recently started working under SMU. A few days in, Gregory got a tip from his friend about a golfer named Bryson DeChambeau. Gregory had never done a favor to anyone compared to what he did for the golfer.

He explained“So I go out there and I see this kid with a pull cart”. The coach was surprised to see an 18-year-old boy with a pull cart in 2011 when almost everyone had stopped using them. Gregory was impressed looking at DeChambeau trying to strip his shots. However, he was not very happy with what he saw in the golfer’s behavior.

He said, “I mean the worst attitude I’ve ever seen — banging clubs, swearing, pouting, looks like the biggest 3-year-old,” And right after saying that, he stated that it was not a problem as he could fix that for DeChambeau.

During the conversation, the golf coach also shared how his friend described the golfer over a phone call. Gregory’s friend referred to DeChambeau as a “different cat” and said that the golfer had a “bad attitude”. He also told Gregory that the player is not liked by a lot of people on the field.

No one will agree to find DeChambeau humble after such a terrible description. Thankfully, it was not the case with the highly experienced 2x NCAA Coach of the Year. Gregory immediately picked up his phone, called DeChambeau, and told him “I’m going to offer you a full scholarship over the phone.” The incident was enough to humble the golfer and it made DeChambeau sob on the phone for minutes.

We never know when an opportunity knocks on our door, and so it was for DeChambeau. There are many more people who are responsible for DeChambeau’s success, majorly including Josh Gregory. But some believe that the golfer’s attitude hasn’t turned down a notch yet.
