Since the inception of the LIV Golf Series, Donald Trump has maintained close ties with the hierarchy in the Middle East. Among the many golf courses that bear his name, two have been picked to play host for LIV Golf’s debut season.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Trump’s Aberdeen golf course is on the verge of being announced as the host for a Legends Tour contest, which is conducted by the European Tour.

Donald Trump: Is this his return from exile?

According to an exclusive scoop from the ‘Telegraph’, the Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen is being finalized as a host in next year’s schedule of the Legends Tour. Formerly known as the European Seniors Tour, the series is a joint venture between insurance magnate Ryan Howsam and the DP World Tour.

“We are in the process of finalizing our 2023 schedule and have held preliminary discussions with a number of high-profile venues which fit with the Legends Tour model,” was the statement received from Howsam. The event is equivalent to PGA’s Tour Champions, which provides a platform for major championship winners and Ryder Cup players over the age of 50.

The move has taken aback a section of golf pundits, who were ready to draw a full stop in Trump’s PGA ventures. Business has been declining for the 76-year-old; the former POTUS hasn’t played host to a PGA Tour event since being elected to the White House in 2016.

Trump’s merry-go-round with PGA Tour and LIV Golf

Evidently, Trump and the PGA Tour haven’t looked eye-to-eye ever since the former’s Bedminster course was stripped of the US PGA Championship, one of the four major tournaments in men’s golf. The January 6 capitol riots in Washington, DC last year were deemed enough to evict one of the most influential people from the golf circuits, but it left Trump with a vengeance on his mind.

The $3.2 billion-worth business tycoon used the banishment as an opportunity. He shook hands with Greg Norman and the Middle East establishment to kick off a rebel league that captured some of the most well-known faces of golf under its umbrella. Trump has also played the role of an outright supporter of the LIV Golf Series and hasn’t shied away from criticizing the PGA Tour on multiple occasions.

However, the most significant help from Trump has been the use of his golf courses in LIV’s debut season. Amongst the $3.2 billion assets he owns, a whopping $740 million is placed on golf courses and resorts. Trump owns no less than 17 world-class golf courses across the world, with the Doral course following Bedminster in playing host to LIV this weekend.
