George Bush makes a written confession

The Walker Cup is going to take place in the same month as the Ryder Cup. Each team has a 10-man squad, and the teams are the United States, Great Britain, and Ireland. The Old Course has hosted around eight editions of this event on its grounds beforehand. Even in 1975, when the USA defeated Great Britain and Ireland, the event was hosted on these grounds only.

Now, looking at the roots of this event, the cup is named after former USGA president George Herbert Walker, who started the tournament in the 1920s. He is the great-grandfather of the 43rd President of the United States, George Bush.

Now, an emotional former POTUS, who carries the lineage of this coveted tournament in his family, sends out a formal letter ahead of the tournament. In the letter, he says, “Greetings to Captain Mike McCoy and Team USA gathered in St. Andrews, Scotland, for the 2023 Walker Cup Match. Over 100 years ago, my great-grandfather, George Herbert Walker, founded the Walker Cup. He was a fierce competitor who loved the game of golf. He’d be proud to know this match is still going strong.”

He also reiterated that he will cheer for the team this year. He added, “Congratulating on being selected to represent the United States in this historic tournament that is so special to my family. This honor is a result of your hard work and dedication to the great game of golf… my advice is simple- play hard and make your family, your family, and your country proud… Laura and I will be pulling for you along with your fellow citizens. Go Team USA!”

Other than golf, Bush also takes an interest in other sporting escapades

George W. Bush, who was named after his father, George H.W. Bush, continued the legacy of the family as the 43rd POTUS after his father left the stage. According to news that circulated months ago, Bush visited the Brooke Army Medical Center in 2009 and met Sergeant Major Chris Self. Chris Self narrated his story to Bush about getting wounded in the leg, but despite the hindrance, he didn’t give up on mountain biking.

As soon as George Bush learned the story, he invited Self to Texas. Thus, back in 2011, the biennial event of mountain biking first took place for 100 km. It was a rally where the war veterans will take place, alongside Bush. Since then, Bush has grown an avid interest in biking, and he even celebrated his 2016 birthday along with these war heroes.
