Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have one of the best brotherhoods in the world of sports. Despite their differences in the past, both golfers share immense respect for each other. During their prime playing days, both stars were considered arch-rivals. It was quite apparent as both men were regarded as the best during the same period and were often competitors during the final rounds of several Majors.

However, in recent years their rivalry has been converted into friendship and given us numerous moments to cherish. Like the one in 2018 when Lefty applauded the “Tiger Slam”.

When Phil Mickelson praised Tiger Woods

During the 2018 Players Championship, Mickelson was grouped with Woods to play the initial rounds of the tournament. The two were paired together at a tournament for the first time since 2001, the same year in which Tiger Woods was his dominant best.

Mickelson was asked about the “Tiger Slam” during the press conference. He replied, “I don’t think anybody today who wasn’t there to witness it, and I don’t think anybody before, will ever see that level of play again.”

Lefty further mentioned how according to him the 2000 US Open is the benchmark of golf. He added, “It was the most remarkable golf in the history of the game, and I think unrepeatable. I think it was that good. I look at 2000 as being kind of the benchmark at the U.S. Open and being the greatest golf I’ve ever witnessed and I believe has ever been played.”

Phil Mickelson then disclosed how difficult it was to compete against Tiger Woods. He revealed how some of the shots played by Woods were too good to be true. The 52-year-old ended by saying, “The guys today look back and they say, ‘Come on, how much better could he have been?’ and so forth. And it goes to show you that they weren’t there to witness it.”

Tiger Woods’ achievements in the sport of golf are invincible. Apart from Woods, only Tom Morris and Mickey Wright have won all four consecutive Majors. Even after 20 years, no player has managed to win all 4 Majors consecutively, thus justifying Mickelson’s comments.

With Woods and Mickelson reaching the near end of their career, who has made more impact in the sport?
