Golf is a game of temperament and, under high-pressure situations, darker sides of a personality can be seen. Even though it is very rare to see golfers taking out frustration on the fans, it is not an impossible thing. This time, something similar took place at the Genesis Invitational.

Rory McIlroy is a fan’s favorite for his great swing, illustrious career with 23 PGA Tour wins, and his kind heart. Take the example of the 2024 US Open, where he stopped by and gave the golf ball to a disabled fan. However, a year later to that incident, the golfer has done arguably the opposite to disappoint many. At the Genesis Invitational, after two rounds, McIlroy was close to the top spot. But with the third round, the match started to slip away from his hand.

This did not improve continuing into the fourth round, where he was seen missing close birdie putts. Tpp many close misses can definitely add to the frustration, and that was the case with McIlroy when the fans suggested something after he missed the third putt. The details about the incident were shared by Dan Rapport through a post on X. The post wrote, “Rory misses a putt on 3. Random fam: “BLAME YOUR CADDIE.” Rory responds immediately. “shut the f*** up.” He’s got zero time for any Harry Diamond slander.”

Well, the Northern Irishman has been associated with his caddie, Harry Diamond, who has been his childhood friend since 2017. He even won the previous event, i.e., AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am along with him. Now, with a fan passing comments on him, it did trigger a lash-out. But, that does not mean the fans were empathetic of his behavior as they were equally triggered by his reponse. After the post surfaced, netizens started to share their thoughts on his behavior. And the comments section is proof of the furious reaction of the fans.

One fan wrote, “With this behaviour, I don’t think he is going to win big again. The guy is under pressure I think,” while another joined in, “Not Harry’s fault that Rory can’t putt for s–t this weekend.” McIlroy, after the second round, was seen struggling to find his game as his birdie putts were close but unfortunately didn’t convert for most of the time. It did lead to a lot of pressure building up on him as he, as he went down from the 5th to the 9th position when the incident took place.

Others joined in, commenting, “No reason to do that smh” and “Mental midget 😭😭😭.” The golfer who has been looked up to by the is now after the occurrence saw an opposite side. Fans were definitely not ready to tolerate a temper tantrum from such a well-known player, especially because a lot of people in the golf world look up to McIlroy for not only his kindness but his demeanor of being a nice guy.

Another fan joined, commenting relating his past, “He had to respond tho guys getting to him already he ain’t winning the masters this year 🤣.” Even though the 35-year-old had a great start to the season, his short-tempered act lately has pushed fans to think about his decade-long major victory scarcity. The golfer won his last in 2014 and is still on the hunt to increase the count.
