Gary Player is one of the fittest 86-year-olds in the world. Even at this age, his fitness makes him a force to be reckoned with. Hence, plenty of golfers look up to him as a fitness icon, hoping to pick up a few tips and tricks from him.

When you talk about fitness and the secret behind it, Gary Player always has a thing or two to say. Recently, he revealed how he follows a 60/40 rule in his life; Healthy living is 60 percent, which includes what you eat and the 40 percent is about exercise.

“I now put eating at 60 percent because as you get older, you put on weight. And weight stops a train,” said Player. “When you get heavier and try to swing with the same force, you did as a young person, which you can’t do, but you’re trying to do it. That’s a quick way to get injury,” revealed Gary.

Gary Player reveals the mantra for living a long life

Gary Player believes if we want to live for a long time, we must stay fit. Furthermore, he said that two meals a day is all one needs. “Two meals a day, that’s all you need. You don’t need three meals a day. No, no, no, no. Breakfast and lunch. Lay off the dinner,” revealed Player.

He then explained the situation with an analogy. “You don’t put gas in your car when you park it in the garage at night.”

Notably, the legendary South African golfer revealed that he still pushes 350 pounds with his legs and does hundreds of sit-ups. Additionally, Gary even runs on a treadmill at max and goes swimming regularly, which is incredible, given his age.

Sometimes even youngsters of 20 or 25 years do not have the kind of strength or stamina to practice the same. But with consistent and disciplined training, Gary Player has maintained his physic which is a great inspiration for everyone. However, it is imperative to note that what works for one person may not work for another. 

Hence, it is crucial to understand your body and plan accordingly.
