The PGA Tour train moved to Arizona and reached its next station in California as the Riviera Country Club. The Genesis Invitational is one of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour calendar. Tiger Woods is hosting the event this year.
Formerly known as the Los Angeles Open, the tournament was elevated to invitational status in 2020, putting it in the same category as other elite events, such as the Masters and the Players Championship. The event is also renowned for its charitable initiatives, with proceeds going to support the Tiger Woods Foundation and various other local organizations.
Many world-class golfers will compete for a substantial purse and coveted title.

What is the format of the Genesis Invitational?
The Genesis Invitational is a thrilling 72-hole event that keeps fans on the edge of their seats until the very end. The first two rounds are divided into threesomes, with each group playing together and rotating between the first and 10th tee. After the first round of the event, there has been a lot of buzz about the trio of Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas.

The top 65 players and ties make the cut after 36 holes and have a chance to continue competing. With Tiger’s amazing performance in the first round, the fans would be very impatient to see if the GOAT will make the cut.

The third and fourth rounds feature dynamic pairings and tee times, with players ranked by their total score. The player with the lowest total score at the end of 72 holes will claim the coveted title. Last year’s champion, Joaquin Niemann, defected to LIV Golf and hence won’t be able to defend his title.
Prize money breakdown
Some serious cash will be splashed at the 2023 Genesis Invitational! With a prize purse of a whopping $20 million. Players will be fighting tooth and nail for their share of the pot. The winner of the tournament will pocket an incredible $3.6 million. Moreover, the runner-up and third-place finisher will take home $2.18 million and $1.38 million, respectively.
And the perks don’t stop there – the champion will also earn 550 FedEx Cup points. And will also receive 46 Official World Golf Ranking points, along with a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour and a spot in next year’s Tournament of Champions.
