Why did Rory McIlroy end the relationship?
After their relationship started in 2011, fans often saw Rory and Wozniacki together. They dated for two years, then Rory McIlroy proposed to Caroline Wozniacki in 2013. He proposed to her on a boat in Sydney Harbour; it was New Year’s Eve.
He gave Wozniacki a £100,000 ring. But Rory realized it was not the right time for him. He broke up with his fiance on a three-minute phone call.
Rory called off the wedding a few days after they sent the wedding invitations out. He said he could not handle such a high-profile relationship. It was getting hard for him to be in a relationship with a person who was similar to him even though he thought it would have been easy.
Rory said, “I thought at the time that being with someone that was in a similar position to you was the obvious answer.”
He added, “But it isn’t, because you can never get away from it. You can never detach yourself and try to come back to the real world.”
Caroline Wozniacki reacted to the breakup
Wozniacki was quite upset about what happened. She was shocked about the sudden calling-off of the wedding.
Wozniacki told ‘The Guardian’ that the breakup was very hard for her. Because everything about their relationship was public from the beginning. Further, McIlroy did a press release about it, which didn’t sit well with her.

Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki both have moved on from it. She found love and married retired NBA player David Lee in Italy back in 2019 after she retired from tennis.
The golfer married American socialite Erica Stoll in 2017, and their first baby in 2020.
