Team USA will not have LIV Golf players in its 2023 Ryder Cup rooster since they need to be a PGA Tour member to be part of the team. On the contrary, they still have a choice to play in Team Europe as the LIV golfers have been granted a temporary stay to their suspensions. However, do they still want to play in the reputed team event? The Ryder Cup Expert and LIV defector Sergio Garcia recently revealed his opinion.
“I don’t know if I want to be part of the team,” the 1-time major champion told the media. He fears that the other players, who are not part of the Saudi Arabia-backed league, will find him a nuisance. “What do I contribute to the team?” he asked.

Notably, the DP World Tour and PGA Tour players have been expressing their dislike toward the players who joined the rival league. Hence, Garcia worried that adding himself to the group full of European Tour players would not be appropriate.
Sergio Garcia thinks nobody is a friend in the DP World Tour except Jon Rahm
Since the beginning of his career, Garcia has been part of Team Europe in the Ryder Cup (10 appearances). Despite sharing so much history with the event, Sergio Garcia now hesitates to play in it.
“I really want to be there to be me, to be the Sergio who plays in the Ryder Cup,” he said. “..who loves it and puts an arm on everyone’s shoulder to help.”

However, after the players started to see him in a different light for joining the LIV Series, the Spanish player felt he couldn’t find a friend there anymore. “Jon is not one of them,” he added, “but there are others who have shown very little class.”
Notably, the former world no. 1, Jon Rahm, has been the only European player to publically reveal that he wants Garcia on the Ryder Cup team.

Since he joined LIV Golf, the fans of other Tours have expressed nothing but criticism toward Garcia. “Class and Sergio in the same sentence doesn’t go well together,” “Sergio talking about class… Give me a break.” “Maybe Sergio isn’t good enough anymore. Maybe it’s time for someone new.” “Haha, bit rich saying they haven’t shown class.” Most of the fans showed little to no empathy in their responses to the golfer’s statement.
“I don’t think Sergio was ever someone who showed class,” another golf fan wrote. Meanwhile, one of them mocked him for saying he wouldn’t want to be a part of the Ryder Cup team. The netizen wrote: “Oh YOU get to decide if you want to be part of the team? Hahaha.”
