2022 ended with 18 overjoyed LIV Golf players as they received invitations to the prestigious Masters. Of course, Phil Mickelson, the three-time Augusta event winner, was among them. But in a recent twist of events, it seems like the Masters is considering surprising yet another defector. And as per the 53-year-old golf legend’s recent statement, he certainly hopes that the rumor of this is true.

Phil Mickelson is hoping for a Masters miracle

Charles Howell III has been on fire of late while playing for the other side. From winning the first event of the breakaway tour’s second season to finishing just one stroke away from a playoff in the second event, it is safe to say that the 43-year-old has every LIV Golf fan’s eyes glued to him for the time being.

But aside from the massive money that he’s making on the tour of defectors, as per rumored tweets, there just may be something else in store for the 3-time PGA Tour winner. Recently, many tweets and reports have suggested that Augusta is considering inviting Howell to the 2023 Masters. Considering his hot streak and that he is from Augusta, Georgia, the rumors may just be true!

And the fans and media franticly talking about this aren’t the only ones rooting for him. The 6-time major winner and fellow LIV golfer Mickelson is rooting for him too. “I hope they do,” he commented on a post that suggested Howell was being looked at for a Masters special invite. “He’s playing some great golf and would be a strong addition.”

The golf world goes berserk over Mickelson’s words

The golf legend’s tweet stirred quite a few fans. Many agreed with him that Howell’s recent performances should earn him an invitation to the Augusta Field.

Contrarily, other fans believed that the golf pro had no business playing at the Masters. They suggested that LIV Golf was not worthy of comparison to world-class golf, and lashed out at the 45-time PGA Tour winner.

Fans even suggested that if Howell was invited on to play, he would not even make the cut at the event.
