Golf prides itself as a gentleman’s game. But Robert MacIntyre didn’t exactly follow the script at the 2025 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He is known for his fiery temperament, and it was on full display when he was on the hot mic.

With the hot mic catching every moment, the Scottish star turned the broadcast into a comedy sketch as he kept swearing again and again. It was a bit funny as the announcer repeatedly kept apologizing, and the swearing never seemed to end.
NUCLR Golf shared a video of the same on X, where the announcer can be heard apologizing for the language multiple times.

The video shows the announcer praising Robert’s shot for getting the ball out of a bunker. But Robert had something to say about the bunker and not the shot itself. He says, “It’s that f–ing bunker.” The announcer is heard apologizing for this for the third time in the short 38-second clip.

It’s not the first time the World No.9 is cussing on the golf course. He has openly accepted his tendency to get frustrated ahead of the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush. The 2025 Ryder Cup hero, who once again helped his team win against the Americans, was addressing the media before the 153rd Open, where some questions were thrown at him about his temper.
“I’m fiery on the golf course when I’m in tournament rounds. I’ll drop, I was going to say the odd, but a few bad words in there. I’ll hit the bag. I’ll say some harsh things, but that’s what gets me going,” the Scot said.

It is natural for someone to get annoyed if things don’t go as planned, be it at work or in a game of golf. For the 2x PGA Tour winner, this happens more often than not compared to others.
A similar incident happened at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship as well. He was playing the last hole of his second round at the Kingsbarns course. Ending up playing a double bogey, he started saying f*ck, and Sky commentators had to apologize back then, too.
He also vowed to try to reduce the swearing after the 2024 incident. “I am trying my best to improve it,” Robert said. He also explained why it happens. “The other side of it is I’m Scottish and it’s part of our vocabulary. It’s difficult, but I am conscious of it and I am trying my best not to do it too much.”
Regardless of how much he tries, it looks like fans may continue to hear MacIntyre curse. In fact, as his comments convey, it’s a part of his vocabulary, and we can’t expect him to change simply because he is on a hot mic. And he is not the only one; many golfers have said the f-word when they are frustrated. The 2025 Ryder Cup is the best example. Many European stars used it to respond to the abuse Rory McIlroy was facing. Tyrrell Hatton has even humorously said “f*ck off” to a reporter when he was asked questions about his swearing.
But despite his hot temper and habit of saying f*ck, Robert MacIntyre actually did well to avoid banter at the 2025 Ryder Cup, where the US fans were not leaving any chance to heckle the European stars. Instead, he responded after the Ryder Cup differently.
Robert MacIntyre fires back at hecklers after 2025 Ryder Cup triumph
Within 48 hours of winning the Ryder Cup for the first time on American soil, Robert posted a video on Instagram. The video featured his putts from the event with comments passed by the American fans as text overlay.
His Instagram post revealed all the slander he faced at the Ryder Cup. The comments featured on the post were, “Eat another burger Bobby?,” “Milk bottle,” “Bobby Mac & Cheese,” and “When you starting Ozempic?”
These comments were aimed at his physique. However, the Scottish golfer replied with his game. He even captioned the video as, “Keep them coming 😘 @rydercupeurope 💙💛🏆🏆.”

This caption is a perfect example of hitting two birds with one stone. Put simply, the caption features two trophies, which replicate the two times he was a part of the winning European team. So, the “Keep them coming” comment, along with adding the Ryder Cup Europe, could mean that he is asking the trophies to keep coming. Based on the context of the video, it could also mean that he is saying to the American fans to keep the heckling coming, and he would keep performing brilliantly in Ryder Cup events.
Currently, Robert MacIntyre leads the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with 18 under par, and he will likely maintain his position. Only a few golfers are left to complete their 3rd and final round. However, none of them has a chance of catching up to the Scottish golfer. Following him is fellow European team member Tyrrell Hatton with 14 under par.
