Another day, another Phil Mickelson chaos on X. It all started when Johnson posted his strategic game plan to defend his title, and Mickelson chimed in with some advice of his own.

“Today, I attempt to defend my club championship title. Here’s the game plan: – tee it low, get it in play,  3 qtr punch shots all day, Steely Dan/Grateful Dead combo on the drive there, haven’t played a round of golf since 9/1, so let’s just enjoy the fact that I get to play golf,” wrote Johnson

“Interesting game plan that could work. A plan I know works is tee it high, hit nasty bombs, go find it, get up and down, collect trophy. 👊,” replied Phil.

It turns out Phil’s advice didn’t work for Johnson. Taking to X, he dropped a rather frustrated update. “Didn’t get it done. Seriously debating quitting the game. But thank you to all of you who showed me support this weekend. Except @PhilMickelson f*ck you and f*ck your sh*t a*s advice.”

Mickleson isn’t the one to take such jabs lying down. “This extreme language will not shock or upset me,” Phil wrote on X. “I’m getting quite used to it. AND I take full responsibility for greatly underestimating just how terrible a golfer you really are. My bad 🙋‍♂️”

Johnson started having fun, it seems. He took another hilarious slam at Phil, bringing up his gambling past in between. He wrote, “Oh, cmon Phil. I know you’ve heard much worse from your bookie.”

Anyone who follows Lefty would know that he has employed such strategies in his game in the past. At the 2021 PGA Championship, he averaged 299 yards off the tee, which was significantly longer than the PGA Tour average of 280 yards. He also famously holed out from a bunker on the par-3 fifth hole during the final round, an example of his “get up and down” tip. And as history would remember, he won his sixth major title that day, becoming the oldest player to win a major championship.

The post could be subjectively interpreted, as many under it acknowledge that Mickleson might have misunderstood the facetiousness. “I’m thinking @johndog68 was kidding about Lefty and everyone seemed to miss the sarcasm,” one user noted. To this, Johnson replied, “That seems to be the case.”

But, as Lefty gave his classic, wry, humorous reply, fans could not help but admire the veteran’s bluntness.

Fans rally behind Lefty as he stands for himself

Despite joining LIV, Phil Mickelson is one of the few players who still enjoys all the love and respect from his fans. And this further gets exacerbated by his weekly, at times daily antics on X. Fans love it, golf nerds love it, and we are sure Phil loves it too. Let us have a look at some of the responses.

“@PhilMickelson I have to say, you being outspoken on X and calling out all the crazy stuff was not on my bingo card, but I’m LOVING IT. Thank you 🙏🏼,” noted one user.

Mickelson, in the past few weeks, if not months, has been quite active on his X account. For someone who has carved his name for his outspoken nature, much as he has done from his golf, the platform has provided him with ample opportunity to speak his mind. Whether it is giving his head-turning advice to Ryder Cup officials or making several other controversial political remarks, Lefty has carved a niche for himself in this regard.

Echoing the sentiment, one said, “Keep it up, Phil 😂.”

Another user said, “Phil is a legend in golf and quickly becoming a legend on X!”

Phil has played several tournaments on LIV and has registered impressive results, too. A solo third in Hong Kong, a solo 6 in Miami, and a T4 in Virginia are a few of the examples. Fans love to see Mickelson, now teetering on middle age, still teeing it off perfectly well.

Keeping Phil’s experience in mind, one wrote, “I’d take advice from you any time, Phil. You are definitely a top 10 all-time golfer. And they are still playing great golf.”

His fandom’s overflowing love could be seen from many such tweets. One remarked, “Love it, Phil for governor. I’ll be the campaign manager.” This comes at a time when he was knowingly left out for the Ryder Cup leadership, prompting him to admit that his role with the biennial event is over forever. Mickelson has the record for playing the most numbers of Ryder Cups  (12).

As Mickelson’s antics continue on X, his fans can sit back and enjoy — because entertainment from Lefty never really stops.
