Tiger Woods’ reaction to being paired with Phil Mickelson

Woods and Mickelson have had common fans in the past. However, Mickelson’s decision to switch to LIV Golf brought a division between fans as well as the golfers. But there was a time when Woods and Mickelson were paired to play in the 2004 Ryder Cup. And talking about the same, Fred Funk recently opened up about Woods’ side of the story.

Funk was a member of the Ryder Cup team in 2004 and has won eight times on the PGA Tour. The golfer recently talked about the 2004 Ryder Cup on a podcast. According to him, Mickelson and Woods were given a two-day notice stating that they were being teamed up. The two lost their afternoon foursomes match playing together. Funk said that he was in the car with Woods and his ex-wife while returning to the hotel.

Funk mentioned asking Woods how it was with Mickelson that day. And the golf legend simply shook his head from left to right. And when asked again, Woods said“He was useless! He didn’t help me one shot,”. Woods added, ‘He doesn’t know where the ball is going, he doesn’t know how far to hit it, he didn’t help me one hole!’ and made everyone in the car laugh.

Woods criticized Mickelson’s comments about the PGA Tour

Phil Mickelson recently made a few controversial comments about the PGA tour before joining the LIV Golf league. The golfer accused the PGA Tour of “obnoxious greed”. However, Woods had an opposite opinion about the matter. Moreover, he extended support to the PGA Tour and even condemned Mickelson’s comments about it.

“I’ve been playing out here for a couple of decades and I think there’s a legacy to it,” Woods said“Phil has said some things that…a lot of us who are committed to the Tour have pushed back against”. He also said that Mickelson had taken some time off the course and that’s okay. But his statements about the tour were certainly unacceptable for the golf legend.
