Golf Legend Gary Player Voices His Opinion on the LIV Golf Invitational Series

The LIV Golf and the PGA Tour fallout have divided the golfing world. Moreover, even golfers have presented their views on the same, with few golfers supporting the LIV while the rest showing their loyalty to the PGA Tour. Although we heard plenty of former players and reporters supporting the PGA Tour, everyone was waiting to find out the views of Gary Player. 

Therefore, Gary Player has finally voiced his opinion on Sky Sports Golf. Gary said he was sad to see the fight between the LIV Golf and the PGA Tour. Moreover, he believes the PGA Tour will always have the strongest players in the world. But the South African says it’s crucial to understand the mindset of players competing in the LIV Golf.

“But remember this that the players that are playing there, now they need the money, and they’ve got families, and I don’t blame them for playing there. And there are not a lot of them that can win on the regular tour anymore. So they wisely taking the money,” said Gary. Hence, he hopes that they settle this fallout amicably.

Meanwhile, the inaugural event of the LIV Golf Invitational Series concluded recently. They managed to rope in top players like Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Kevin Na, and others. However, the South African Charl Schwartzel won the event with a score of -7 and a record $4 million dollar prize money. 

Furthermore, for the next event, the rival league will have a stronger field, as Bryson DeChambeau, Pat Perez, and Patrick Reed have officially decided to join this event in Portland. 

Gary Player wants players joining LIV Golf to accept that they are playing for money

Gary Player believes that all the LIV Golf players should be honest and openly admit that they are playing for the money. “There’s no disgrace about that. Every businessman has a choice to say that when he gets transferred from one company to another, I’m leaving because I’m making more money, but you can’t have your cake and eat it,” said the legendary South African. 

However, Gary Player constantly reiterated that the best players will always come from the United States. He believes that the PGA Tour will have the best players regardless of what LIV Golf or any other league shows up.

Meanwhile, the 86-year-old also said that the heart of the game is the amateur and not the professional golfers. And this is where the PGA Tour has a considerable advantage over others, as they have an incredible depth in their pool.

To conclude, Gary Player has not chosen a side. He pointed out that if both Tours can sort things out amicably, it will be a positive thing for the game of golf.
