Holding the position of CEO in the Saudi Arabia-backed league, the former Open Championship winner has been receiving a massive backlash from the golf world. However, the tables now seem to have taken a U-turn.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Norman recently put up a tweet. He extended his support to the current Presidents Cup’s International team captain, Trevor Immelman. Prompt is his Twitter game, Trevor took no time to respond. However, the response from Trevor seemed enough to receive a backlash from the golf world.

Earlier, the golf world opened its arms to welcome one of the most awaited tournaments of the year: the Presidents Cup. While some fans expressed their support for their favorite team, others expressed excitement about the event itself.

Golf World criticizes Trev Immelman’s reply to Greg Norman

Walking on a similar path was Greg Norman. A former part of the International team, Norman took to his Twitter saying, Outside of all this angst – golf is golf, competition is competition; something every golfer thrives on. As a former player & Captain of the International Team, I wish Trevor Immelman & his entire team the very best in repeating our only 1998 Presidents Cup success in Melbourne.”

The comments on the post had a mixed bag of responses from the golf world. But Trevor Immelman’s response to the limelight. Responding to the tweet, he wrote, “LOL”.

Trevor’s reply assumingly came as a show of protest for LIV Golf. The league, that pulled back Trevor from getting his strongest player, now a LIV golfer, Cameron Smith, into the team.

Norman has been a victim of utmost criticism ever since LIV Golf. However, that wasn’t the case this time. Unlike the previous tweets from Norman, this one pulled in support from the golf world. Learning about Trevor’s reply, fans expressed their disapproval.

The backlash from the fans came in lieu of the current performance of the International team. With the tournament halfway through, the Americans have been in a dominant position, leading with a score of 8-2. Doing the math, The American team now needs 7.5 points to win the clash. Further, the International team needs to pocket 13.5 points to seal the victory.
