After losing his father to a heart attack, Fred Couples is the only father figure Tiger Woods has left in his life. 2006 was a painful year for Woods’ family when Earl Woods was submerged in the earth’s soil. The former number-one golfer lost track of his life when he lost his biggest supporter. Thankfully, Couples took charge and filled the void in the golfer’s life. Woods treats him as a mentor and looks at him the way he sees his father.

You might have heard many stories about their bond. Woods and Couples have been close since the beginning. And when you are this close, it is obvious to share some giggles and make memories that you can laugh about for years. However, this story from the 2009 Presidents Cup will leave you laughing hard.

The cherry on the cake was their comment about Woods on the whole situation. So let’s dig in and find out what happened in 2009. Couples shared the story in September last year. It is about when Woods was on the U.S. team, which was being captained by Couples.

The unknown story of the 2009 Presidents Cup and Tiger Woods

At the beginning of the Presidents Cup, the captain must choose a name who won’t be playing in case of injury. It is done to balance both teams, and the names are never made public.

Back in the 2009 Presidents Cup, Woods was the number-one golfer in the world. The incident led to where he had to say something hilarious and unexpected to Couples. Woods texted the captain“Dude, you’ve got the biggest b***s of anyone I’ve ever seen.” Now the question arises, what made the golfer say that to his favorite Couples?

The Twitter handle of Presidents Cup posted the video of Couples, where he narrated the story of the fun he had in 2009 with Woods. Everyone was in the room, the team and the captain. Greg Norman, the International team, and Couples put the name of one player from their team.

They sealed it in an envelope. Further, they hand it to the head official, Steve Carman. And everything went fine when the U.S. team won in the first round. When Carman opened the envelope on request of the US captain, he read the name ‘Tiger Woods.’

The whole room was silenced. However, the real story was something else the U.S. captain could hide for two years. He only unhooked the envelope and, as a joke, wrote Woods’ name and removed the actual name from the envelope. Since Woods was unaware of the story then, he kept texting Couples for many years.
