The golf world has been ardently awaiting news of the merger between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour for a while now. However, as each second passes without an update, the question of a future without the framework agreement echoes loudly. And now, Greg Norman’s recent comments appear to hint at the same thing, unfortunately!

The CEO of LIV Golf came forward to disclose the venue for the season’s penultimate event, the Individual Championship near Chicago, at Bolingbrook Golf Club in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Along with the reveal, he went ahead to slightly allude to his plans for the coming season in 2025. And sadly, there was was no mention of the merger!

While referring to the two events that took place in 2022 and 2023 at Rich Harvest Farms, Norman mentioned how Chicago has always welcomed the breakaway league. But he didn’t stop there. Adding on, the Aussie also revealed his plans for the season-end as well as the upcoming one, saying, “The passionate sports fans of Chicago have embraced the intense competition and fan-first experience that LIV Golf delivers, but this year it will be an incredible setting for a high-stakes event as players battle it out for the individual title and a roster spot for 2025.”

Yes, the 69-year-old let slip one of his plans for the coming year. However, what does it seem to imply? Well, the former professional golfer seems to be planning for a possible future where the merger between the Jay Monahan-led circuit and LIV Golf doesn’t take place. Especially so since the current situation hasn’t managed to provide any positive hope despite Tiger Woods-led Player Directors meeting with Yasir Al-Rumayyan in the Bahamas.

Meanwhile, as he revealed the venue for the LIV Golf Individual Championship, the commissioner of the breakaway league also went ahead and expressed his exhilaration for returning to Chicago for the same: “We’re thrilled to return to Illinois with an event at Bolingbrook Golf Club as we celebrate the season-long race and set the stage for the 2024 finale.” It seems the Australian shark has decided to focus on his own Tour and fill himself up with excitement instead of hoping for a merger.

Now, coming back to the delay that the merger seems to be going through, Peter Malnati, along with Webb Simpson, hinted at the same while expressing uncertainty about the framework agreement. The two did so after they met with the governor of the Public Investment Fund, Al-Rumayyan.

Malnati’s and Simpson’s revelations add to Norman’s hint

Commenting on the result of the meet-up with Al-Rumayyan, Malnati said, “I do think it’s a while until we get there; I didn’t walk away with a much clearer understanding of what the future holds.” Moreover, Simpson was of the same opinion. He said, “It definitely seems like he envisions a place in the game of golf, but we didn’t get as far as what he wants and what does LIV want.”

In the end, according to the details disclosed by the two about the agreement and the praise dished out about the Saudi businessman soon after, it appears the two sides are slowly moving forward with their negotiations. But the fans, along with Greg Norman, can only wait, hope, and see whether the deal will reach a favorable conclusion by the end of this year.
