The fever for the PGA Championship is high with everyone right now as the tournament is currently ongoing with Bryson DeChambeau taking the lead, closely followed behind by Scottie Scheffler. Fans are glued to their screens not risking to miss even a single shot. The event’s first day at the Oak Hill Country, Rochester, New York was absolutely full of entertainment.

Bryson DeChambeau, Eric Cole, Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott, and Scottie Scheffler had an eventful day on the course. Amidst the hype, a former PGA Tour Champion dropped a major throwback pic of the good old PGA days and it has hit everyone with a  wave of nostalgia.

Former Champion shares throwback of his own first PGA Championship Win

Golf Hall of Famer Gary Player, now has embraced retirement after a successful and celebrated career on the course, but his love for the game hasn’t ceased. He actively participates in senior Tour tournaments. And Gary actively keeps up with the world of social media as well. With all the hype surrounding the ongoing PGA Championship, the South African golfer took to Instagram to post a picture from his own 1962 PGA Championship win.

In the black and white picture, Gary is seen on the stage shaking hands with the commentator. With his club pursed under his right hand, and the trophy laid out on the table ahead of them, Gary and everyone around him look very happy about his victory. He captioned the image –

“And so begins the 105th edition of the PGA Championship. Hard to believe it has been this long since I bested my friend Bob Goalby by 1 shot at Aronimink. It was a battle that day and no doubt one of the most important victories of my career.”

He called it one of the most important victories of his career. Considered one of the finest golfers, Player has a very enviable resume with three Open Championships, three Masters titles, two PGA Championships and one US Open under his belt.

In the 1962, at the PGA Championship held at Aronimink Golf Club, Pennsylvania, the Golf Pro achieved his first PGA Championship with one shot over his friend Bob Goalby. For his win, the three-time Green Jacket champion was rewarded with a prize money of $13,000. During his prime days Gary along with his fellow players Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, and other legends, ruled the golf course. Sadly, Goalby passed away last year at the age of 92.
