The athlete was detained by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police on 28th December, Thursday night. But, as reports of the arrest made the headlines, many had speculated how the 33-year-old could have been driving under the influence of either alcohol or “prescribed meds.” Nevertheless, one thing was for sure; he had driven not in a sober state “while subject to an impaired substance.

However, NUCLR GOLF went ahead to share a post on their X handle as an update to Varner’s story. The tweet mentions how it has been “confirmed” that the LIV golfer was driving while intoxicated with “alcohol” that was above the “legal” level.

Continuing with the story, the update reveals how the “court documents” report him blowing “a 0.16 on a breath test.” But, as per the legal BAC level, anything above “0.08” is considered above the limit, which puts the American National in a precarious position since his level was “double the legal Blood Alcohol Content level.”

Nevertheless, many would be curious as to what might happen to the athlete following the unfortunate events that have transpired in his life.

The Gastonia Native’s bond was set at $500, which he was able to post the night itself. However, he will be called for a hearing which is speculated to be held next month, on January 19th, 2024, as per sources. Nevertheless, one can’t help but look back at a similar case when Tiger Woods was booked under DUI in 2017 to get an idea of the possible after-effects of the arrest.

Woods pleaded guilty to the charges and was made to enter a diversion program. As per the same, he spent a year on probation while paying an amount of $250 for the court costs and fine. Moreover, the 82X PGA Tour champ was made to go to a DUI school, all the while engaging in 20 hours of community service along with attending a workshop.

Well, Varner would be facing more or less a similar situation as he enters the year charged with DWI. Nonetheless, he would be hoping to dust himself off and move forward as a newly added member of Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC in the 2024 LIV Golf season.
