What records did Reed set during his initial days?

2014 was Reed’s first big break in the sport. After registering his first win at the season-ending 2013 Wyndham Championship, ‘Captain America’ started off the new season strongly. At the 2014 Humana Challenge, Reed emerged victorious after setting the PGA Tour record for most strokes under par after 54 holes (27).

In March, he won the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral. He won the event over every other golfer ahead of him in rankings, pocketing a cool $1.53 million in the process. Reed also became the first PGA Tour golfer to have three wins before playing in his first major, the 2014 Masters. With the media trying to gain an insight into the then 24-year-old, Reed started making outlandish claims, a selection of which is highlighted below:

What did Patrick Reed say about his legacy?

After winning the WGC, Reed emphasized on the journey to his third Tour victory. “I don’t see a lot of guys that have done that besides Tiger Woods and the legends of the game. I believe in myself, especially with how hard I’ve worked. I’m one of the top five players in the world. I feel like I’ve proven myself,” he told reporters after the event.

In fact, Reed’s victory at the WGC had a considerable change in his position in the Official World Golf Rankings. However, he was still far off the Top 5 and managed a then personal best of 20th.

Is Patrick Reed a fan of Tiger Woods?

In simple words, yes. Reed has shown his affection towards Woods in various stages of his career. He once said that his wife called him Tiger Woods’ “twin star”, a comparison he has no intention of backing away from.

Reed also mentioned why he wore red and black on Sundays, an attire attributed to Woods. “He is the reason why I wear red and black on Sunday,” Reed said. “I grew up watching him and to watch how he carries himself, how much confidence he has when he walks, just the determined looks in his eyes. That’s why I wear red and black.” Guess what, he even shares Tiger’s fist pump!

While Reed wasn’t able to manage a debut major victory at the 2014 Masters, he secured the Green Jacket four years later in the 2018 edition. On his journey to emulate his inspiration, the 9-time PGA Tour winner abruptly altered the course of his career when he decided to join the rebel LIV Golf series. Whether it was the correct decision or not, nobody knows. But it will surely harm Reed’s reputation in his quest to be the next Tiger Woods.
