Headlined By Nelly Korda and Team USA, 8 Countries to Fight for Bragging Rights in Revived LPGA Tour Event

LPGA star Nelly Korda and other golfers are excited. According to the latest updates, eight countries will be part of the 2023 Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown. It is one of the most awaited team competitions in Women’s golf. The event features all the best female golfers worldwide competing for the title. However, since 2018, the event has been returning for the first time to San Francisco’s famed TPC Harding Park from May 4 to 7, 2023.

The four-day championship event will have a twist for golf fans with a new format for Sunday. There will be a four-ball competition from Thursday to Saturday. The top two countries will advance to the Sunday match. Therefore, two semi-final matches will occur on the event’s last day. Sunday will have matches which will consist of two singles matches and one four-a-side match.

What did Nelly Korda and other golfers say about the championship?

Strong teams are competing at TPC Harding Park in 2023. The United States, Korean Republic, and Japan will compete with 35, 35, and 85 points, respectively. Sweden is joining with 120 points and Thailand with 183 points. However, England and Australia are coming up strong with 197 and 298 points, respectively, along with the People’s Republic of China, with 446 points. Unfortunately, South Africa missed their chance to be part of their first Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown.

LPGA golfers are excited about the return of the team competition, which was last held in the Korea Republic in 2018. The leading American golfer Nelly Korda has big hopes for the championship. She said“I am very excited for the return of the Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown. Hopefully, I can represent Team USA.”

The Korean star Kim Hyo-Joo agreed with Korda, and she is hoping to write a perfect balance sheet and be able to take part in the next event.

They chose the teams based on the combined Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. They awarded the top four players from each country the points per their performance in the CME Group Tour Championship, 2022. Immediately after the event, they gave the ranking. However, the final 32 players will be confirmed by April 3, 2023.

Who are the former winners of the event?

They held the first competition in 2014 at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland. Team Spain claimed the title for that year. In the 2016 competition, the US team won the Hanwha International Crown championship at the Merit Club in Illinois. The US team was also the event host; therefore, it was a proud moment for them.

The Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown was due to be held in England in 2020. However, it had to be postponed because of the pandemic. In 2018, the Korea Republic team claimed the title. The best part about their win was that the event was in their homeland at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon. However, USA and England were tied for the second position.
