Here’s Why Rory McIlroy Despises Taking Solo Flights

It is hard not to accept that we humans are the main reason for all the calamities on earth. And once you recognize this truth, you cannot avoid it. Rory McIlroy happens to be one of the few to understand these factors and take action accordingly. 

Climate change is a huge problem that we face these days; Burning fossil fuels, deforestation, etc. causes climate change. Carbon dioxide is produced while burning fossil fuels, and this gas is the main cause of human-induced climate change.

People are aware of this fact, they learn it from the school. Yet, they chose to ignore this so to make their life comfortable. But the PGA Tour golfer, Rory McIlroy, is not among those many.

A massive sense of guilt hit Rory McIlroy!

As a golfer, McIlroy is destined to travel around the world. And at times, he uses private jets to fly from one country to another. Although he is used to that, it changed until one day.

He explained that after winning a tournament in China, he flew back home in a private jet, all by himself. This experience opened Rory’s eyes to how much impact a flight causes on nature.

He said“And I just got this massive sense of guilt come over me just because this can’t be good.” Rory further added that is why he reached out to Geo Foundations so that he could neutralize the damage these trips do.

Geo Foundations is an international non-profit organization that promotes sustainability in and through golf. McIlroy found ways to neutralize the climate harm he caused with the help of the foundation. He said, “On top of what I pay to fly private, I pay quite a bit more on top of that to make sure I’m carbon neutral by the end of the year.”

Carbon neutral flight means one will pay extra money to neutralize the environment by paying the jet company to plant trees, reduce methane output, etc.

Global warming, climate change, all of these are problems that all of us face in day-to-day life. While many tend to avoid it, entities like Rory can make a change by creating awareness for a larger audience.
