John Daly has a unique personality. He lives on his own terms. Despite being a professional golfer, the 55-year-old has never followed a practice routine before a championship event. Yet, he found success in golf because of his natural talent. 

“He is so naturally good, you know,” the PGA Champions pro player Michael Allen explained Daly’s natural talent in golf. “It’s just like amazing.” Michael talked about his fellow golfer in the latest episode of the podcast GOLF’s Subpar. Notably, the former PGA Tour player Colt Knost and Korn Ferry Tour player Drew Stoltz co-hosts the podcast. 

Allen further explained to his hosts that Daly would give him notes when he makes mistakes while making shots. “(Daly) said, ‘Michael, just hit the ball in the middle of the club, will ya? Just hit the ball in the middle of the face,'” Allen further added. 

Michael Allen is a 63-year-old golfer. He currently plays for the PGA Tour Champions. Like Daly, Allen won his senior major in 2009, the year he joined the men’s senior golf; he won the Senior PGA Championship in 2009. 

Furthermore, Allen became the first to win a major in the Champions Tour as a sponsor exemption. Apart from his major, Allen has won 7 other titles on the Tour.

Additionally, Allen has played in the Korn Ferry Tour, the PGA Tour, and the European Tour. Although he hasn’t won on the PGA Tour, the golfer has won European and Korn Ferry Tour championship titles. 

Daly and Allen have been friends with each other since the beginning of their careers. 

And they have even played as a team on the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf in 2018.

Michael Allen revealed John Daly’s routine before a tournament. 

“He’s so simple,” Allen said about Daly’s routine before an event. 

“I mean, he’ll sit around in his RV just on an angle drinking whiskey all night, ice his knees and stuff,” Allen added. He admiringly explained that Daly could hit long drives the next day, even after following this routine. “He’s an absolute freak,” Allen further added. 

Daly has always surprised the golf fans and his colleagues alike. It is not shocking, considering he has won his first major as a ninth and final alternative in his PGA Tour rookie year.
