The words of legends are always looked upto by youngsters. In the sport of golf, many golfers look up to the ‘Merry Mex’ Lee Trevino and idolize his golfing skills on the course. However, being a Hall of Famer of the sport also implies that Trevino has a good eye for talented golfers. In his prediction of future great stars in 2009, the Supermex revealed the names of a few golfers who he thought would be great, including Anthony Kim.

Trevino was back on the golf course during the 2022 PNC Championship, showing fans he still has got it at the age of 83. The Hall of Famer was keeping a close eye on several young golfers at the Father-Son challenge. However, noting down quality talent has been a standard norm for Trevino, as he once shared his thoughts on young talent more than a decade ago.

There are a lot of players out there who are impressive”, said the Hall of Famer. Trevino then began his list of impressive young golfers in 2009. “This Sean O’Hair can really play. Zach Johnson can really play”, he started. He then named Anthony Kim, who was earning a name for himself around the golf world during that time.

The Supermex added, “Anthony Kim can play, if he quits reading the newspaper about how great he is. He could be a hell of a player”. The five golfers went on to win a combined three Majors. Most golfers didn’t leave up to Trevino’s expectations. But the most notable name who failed to win the hype was Anthony Kim. After winning the hearts of many in a few years of professional golf, Kim looked like a top prospect.

However, the 37-year-old hasn’t played in a PGA Tour event since 2012 due to an injury. Nonetheless, Trevino’s prediction wasn’t that bad after all. If only Anthony Kim’s promising career wasn’t hijacked with an Achilles tendon injury, fans as well as Trevino could have witnessed one of the greats.
