Up until the 11th on the Royal Troon Golf Club, Shane Lowry was leading the Open Championship field, but everything came down wayward soon. The Irishman was en route to keep his lead at the 152nd Open, but on the 11th hole, Lowry shot his ball into a thick fescue near the greens. The failed shot immediately forced a reaction out of the pro, which was not at all expected.

In a fit of frustration, Lowry turned to the cameraman on his side and started screaming at him. The NUCLR Golf on X posted that Lowry said, “As I was over the ball I could just see you putting your f—kin’ camera up. Just get outta the way. Just get back there. F—k sake!” After everything was over, Lowry’s problems didn’t end there.

The 3-time PGA Tour winner lost the ball he hit into the vegetation and used a ‘provisional’ ball right after it. Eventually, his ball was found by a spectator, and thus, Lowry was given a penalty stroke and went back in line where the ball was sitting to hit it again. The 1-time major winner ended with a double bogey on the 11th hole, trailing behind Daniel Brown.

Seeing Lowry lose his cool, the golfer did not spare the PGA Tour pro and immediately called out his disappointing behavior with the cameramen, although it was not his fault.

Golf fans ridicule Shane Lowry’s angry fist at Royal Troon

The always cheerful Shane Lowry rarely loses his cool, unlike his Ryder Cup comrade, Tyrrell Hatton. But when he does it, it becomes a fiasco in the golf world, and, thus, may force the fans to criticize him. As this fan said, “Such a baby when things don’t go his way.” Another fan who was frustrated with Lowry’s unexpected F-bomb ruthlessly said, “Idk why people like this guy. He’s a egotistical d**k. Complete douche at the Ryder cup.”

From losing his ball and eventually finding it again to following the ruling, Lowry took more time than anyone could have expected. The 3-time PGA Tour winner was deciding on his line of shots and took nearly 30 minutes to follow the ruling. The overtime had annoyed many fans, as this user highlighted, “Then he took 30 mins to hit a worse shot than his provisional.” Lowry’s provisional shot would have been a par-putt, if not for the spectator, which eventually ended up in a double bogey.

This year, the Open Championship’s prize money has hit a record $17 million, an increase from last year’s $16.5 million. In 2023, Brian Harman took home $3 million as the winner, but this year, the winner will bag, $3.1 million. The increase in the purse could only be possible because of sponsors, the fans who avidly watch the Open, and the cameramen who capture the event tirelessly. Thus, this fan didn’t like Lowry getting angry at the cameraman doing his work. They said, “These guys getting mad about the cameras or the coverage are such clowns. Like how or why do you think the $$$ is there??!”

It was the last bad shot of Shane Lowry’s second round, as the Irishman quickly recovered from it and regained composure. The 3-time PGA Tour winner carded two birdies after the whole chaos subsided and ended the round with 2 under 69. He didn’t lose his 18-hole lead and remained at the top of the leaderboard. However, seeing his unexpected nature, this fan hoped that he would fall from the lead. They appreciated the pro but said, “Lowry is great craic and good guy but struggles with losing his head when pressure is on. Would expect a massive fall off from now.”

With only two more days remaining, Lowry will have plenty of chances to gain the golf world’s back, and with the pace he has playing, he may even win the Open for the second time in his career.
