The competitive mindset of every golfer provides tremendous energy for each of the major tournaments that happen on the circuit. But as a byproduct, among all these talents, only one can touch the silverware and claim it for themselves, thus making the remaining party start their competitive race yet again. What is more interesting is that A-listers like Phil Mickelson use such glorious competitive stages, especially the Masters tournament, as a means of cracking jokes.

His ‘green-jacket dinner’ jokes have become a sort of dig that almost all jacket-less golfers avoid. But still, he finds a way to crack something up. Recently, when asked about how Rory McIlroy would react to this comedic trend, Phil Mickelson gave a hilarious reply.

The three-time Augusta champ Phil Mickelson is a well-known prankster and a witty person. He likes to create a comedic atmosphere through his conversations with not just the press but with his fellow colleagues as well. One major tool in his hand that he quite often pulls out is the ‘Masters Dinner’ joke.

The exclusive dinner that is only for the Green Jacket holders is still a dream for many, and Phil Mickelson loves to use that to take a dig at his colleagues by asking them what their dinner plans were the night of the Masters Champions Dinner.

Recently, he even revealed how Dustin Johnson savagely responded to his joke after finally winning the Masters in 2020. Throwing back all of Lefty’s shade for his previous taunts, the former world no. 1 hilariously responded, saying, “I know what I am doing for next year on Tuesday, m**********r.”

Following that viral revelation, fans of course got to wondering how other golf pros had responded to the 6-time major winner’s taunts. Once such fan took to Twitter and asked the LIV star if he had ever directed his famous Masters joke at McIlroy. It seems that Mickelson had the answer up his sleeve; he stated, “I don’t think he’d handle it well. Probably tell me to F off”.

Apparently, he still hasn’t asked McIlroy the Masters Dinner question, but he knows if he did, Rory certainly would not take it well. After all, it is the only major that still eludes him!

The reason behind McIlroy’s potential unfunny response to the hilarious question is undoubtedly his jacket-less Masters run. The Irishman, who is considered one of the most skilled golfers, has won the PGA Championship two times. He also found victory at the US Open and the Open Championship. But the Masters green jacket has constantly eluded him.

In 2022, he came quite close but narrowly missed out after Scottie Scheffler won the #1 position. In 2023, too, he was not unable to grasp glory and didn’t even make the cut while Jon Rahm clinched the title.

We have to wait and see if Rory can finally wear the exclusive jacket that has managed to dodge him all these years. Perhaps next year! Well, Rory would certainly hope so!
