The 2023 Memorial Tournament is on the verge of announcing its winner of the year. With four days of intense golfing, the golf world is now approaching the final round of the event. With players like Si Woo Kim and David Lipsky high on the leaderboard, World no. 3 Rory McIlroy, stands at the third position dreaming to grab the feat. 

With the thrilling aura of the Muirfield Village Golf Club, McIlroy is competing to win the $20 Million worth event, along with something else that comes with it.

The 34-year-old golfer who has made history by claiming 23 wins at the PGA Tour, has been waiting in the wings to win the Memorial tournament for a long time. And this year, he has been an eager beaver as he already has made it to the top of the leaderboard.

The PGA Tour pro has elevated his game by scoring a 2 under 70 in the third round of the event, shooting his rank by six levels. A glad Rory, who now stands a clear chance to turn the tables his way, expressed what it would be like for him to win the winner’s title at the 2023 Memorial. He said, “I’ve played pretty well here over the years without really having a realistic chance to win. So to be able to walk up that hill from 18 and get that handshake from Jack would be pretty nice.”

McIlroy also mentioned that he had previously won at the Arnold Palmer Invitational however he couldn’t secure a handshake from him as Arnold Palmer had passed away by then. And a handshake from the GOAT Jack Nicklaus, will mean wonders for him. To make this fantasy come true, Rory is all set with his game plan.

He mentioned, “I’ve done a good job this week of keeping the ball in play, hitting a lot of 3-woods, a lot of irons off the tee. What I need to do tomorrow is just stick to that game plan, not get ahead of myself, not get too aggressive.” The Northern Irishman believes that he stands a chance to win this event if he sticks to his plan like he’s done for the past three rounds.

Who may win the 2023 Memorial?

Jack Nicklaus’ 2023 Memorial Tournament hasn’t been less than a rollercoaster ride for fans. With the top three ranks covered by Si Woo Kim, David Lipsky, and Rory McIlroy respectively, there are many more players approaching the top of the leaderboard. Prominent players like Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Hideki Matsuyama, and Jordan Spieth among others are just three shots away from taking the lead.
