There is never a lazy moment on the field, and fans of the sport are just as active and entertaining. This season, at the Wyndham Championship, a pairing has caused a lot of laughs and also some serious concerns.

The pairing that is poles apart

We’ve heard a lot of stories about how golfers turn friends when paired together. They have their inside jokes and common goals which excites the players and the audience. But when the pairing is between a veteran golfer and one who barely made it on the PGA Tour, it is certainly interesting.

Stewart Cink was recently announced as the 5th vice-captain representing the US Team at Ryder Cup 2023. That is not an easy position to hold, and it provides a glimpse into the veteran golfer’s experience on the field. He just turned 50 and joined the Senior Tour. Akshay Bhatia won his first title last month at an event in which he participated with a temporary membership and the exemptions it awards. He recently turned 21.

The two golfers along with Sam Burns (27) are paired together and the golfing community is loving it. One fan was so delighted by the pairing that he made an interesting observation to demonstrate the “battle of ages” as put by Golf Digest.

At his age, Bhatia has been on this earth for 1121 weeks. Cink has been on the OWGR’s list of top 175 golfers for a week longer than that. It is hardly a stretch at this point to say that the Barracuda Champ will be busier learning this week from his companion rather than focusing on the title.

Akshay Bhatia’s contention for FedEx Cup Playoffs

There has been a massive uproar after Bhatia won the Barracuda Championship, taking home $684,000, but did not earn the 500 FedEx points. As per the PGA Tour’s report, he needs a solo finish in 4th place at least in the Wyndham Championship if he wants to make it to the top 70 FedEx points list.

With a seasoned golfer like Cink by his side, perhaps the 21-year-old has a shot at getting the points he needs to compete at the esteemed event. If it works in his favor, he will also be able to play at the Ryder Cup 2023, where Cink will be his vice-captain.
