The epic betting story of Bryson DeChambeau
DeChambeau holds the record for hitting the longest shots on the field. After he transitioned to LIV Golf, the golfer lost a few fans he had while on the PGA Tour. However, his skills are still appreciated by millions of people across the world. But surprisingly, all it took for DeChambeau to realize he was a natural golfer, was a bet with his childhood friend.

The player once narrated the story of the time when he was 14-15 years old. He recalled having a friend named Blake Berry, who used to play golf with DeChambeau. One fine day, the two decided to place a bet while “playing from the white tees”. It turned out that DeChambeau was feeling great about his game that day. And so he offered to make a bet with his friend, which he accepted.

Berry, who was a 2-handicap, underestimated the talent of the golfer. While DeChambeau made a bet saying “I’ll give you a shot every hole”. But to Berry’s surprise, the golf star played unbelievably great. “I birdie the first three holes. He pars each of them and we’re even. I eagle No. 4 and par 5, then birdie 6, birdie 7, birdie 8, and birdie 9 to shoot a 27. I played the best I possibly could,” DeChambeau said and recalled winning the bet.

What did the golfer realize after winning the bet?
After winning the bet against his friend, DeChambeau realized that he had what was required to play professional golf. He said, “That’s when I knew I could do it. That’s when I knew I could play out here, that I had the you-know-what that it takes to play out here.” DeChambeau scored 27, while Berry shot 37 and even bogeyed the last hole. And therefore, Berry had to get the golfer a ‘Reese’s’ candy after losing the bet.

As it turned out, all it needed for DeChambeau to believe in himself was a friendly bet with Berry. And of course, some candy! Although DeChambeau mentioned that he knew he was a good golfer back then, he still needed some assurance. And that’s what the bet did for him.
