Jack Nicklaus is widely considered the greatest golfer of all time. The golfer made himself worthy of the title by winning a plethora of championships worldwide, including 18 majors. He has also established his name off the course by setting up a successful golf course design company. 

Although Nicklaus has been a busy golfer and a business owner throughout his life, he has never forgotten to spend time with his family. Married in 1960, Nicklaus had his wife Barbara on his side in every venture he started, making her a household name in the golf world. However, not many know much about his children and grandchildren. 

It would be accurate to call the Nicklaus family big, as it consists of Jack and Barbara, their five children, and 22 grandchildren. As they are a close-knitted family, all his children live within a 10-minute distance from the family home in North Palm Beach.

Barbara and the golfer had first met in 1957 when they were still studying; she was a nursing student. Two years later, the couple got engaged on Christmas day and got married in June 1960. 

His eldest son, Jack Nicklaus II was born in 1961. The 61-year-old presently looks after the golfer’s business and is the president of the Nicklaus Design. Meanwhile, his second son, Steve, is the vice-president of the golf course designing company. Born in 1963, he teams up with his father to the Pro-Ams.

The third child of Jack and Barbara Nicklaus is a daughter. Being the only daughter of the golfer, Nan O’Leary, née Nicklaus, has always had a special place in his heart. According to the 57-year-old, her father always gifted her antics from all over the world for Christmas and her birthdays.

Born in 1969, Gary Nicklaus is the only son of the GOAT to follow his career. Unlike his father, the 53-year-old has never won any titles and has earned around $8 million. Michael, the youngest of the five, is a businessman. The 49-year-old also looks after the course designing company of his father. 

The Nicklaus’ grandkids

Married for almost 62 years, Jack and Nicklaus have 22 grandchildren from their five children. Interestingly, Kelly O’Leary, the only daughter of Nicklaus’ only daughter, shares the same birthday as her ‘peepaw.’ 

The golfer’s grandkids are often seen caddying for their grandfather at the Par-3 Contest at the Augusta National. Notably, Gary Nicklaus’ son, Gary Nicklaus made a hole-in-one at the event back in 2018. Unfortunately, one of his grandsons died in 2005 in a tragic accident. He was just 17-months-old at the time of his death. 

Although the Nicklaus family is big, the love between them hasn’t faded away. It is easier to say that the 18-time major winner has found success in his personal life as he has done in his professional career.
