It’s not even been 10 years since Jon Rahm turned pro, and anyone who knows golf already knows his name. The effect Rahm has had on the sport is undeniable, with 22 professional titles under his belt in a remarkably short period. His journey to stardom began with his first win, which came less than a year after turning pro in 2016, at the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open. This early success was just the beginning, as Rahm went on to make his mark on various tours, including the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf.

As Rahm’s career progressed, he consistently demonstrated his ability to adapt and thrive in different environments, racking up multiple victories on each tour. His impressive resume is a testament to his exceptional skill and versatility as a golfer. With each win, Rahm solidified his position as one of the top players in the world, leaving a lasting impact on the sport.

Rahm’s major championship wins are the crowning jewels of his career, with two titles to his name: the 2021 US Open and the 2023 Masters Tournament. At the 2021 US Open, Rahm showcased his ability to perform under pressure, closing with successive birdies to win the title. Two years later, he claimed his second major title at the Masters Tournament, overcoming a strong challenge from Brooks Koepka to win by four strokes.

A grand slam is not what Jon Rahm truly wants

Jon Rahm, the two-time major champion, has downplayed the importance of completing a career Grand Slam, stating that he’d rather focus on winning more majors in total instead of just four different ones. “Yeah, of course,” he said when asked about the career Grand Slam. “What is it, six people now in history that have been able to do it? Yeah. I would love to do it. Obviously, it’s not easy.” Rahm believes that winning a third major, regardless of which tournament it comes from, is currently more on his mind than the career Grand Slam. “I think obviously it would be a lot more on my mind if I were to win a third different one, kind of like Jordan has been able to do, but as in right now, if I ever had a thought, I’ll focus more on quantity of majors rather than which ones.”

Rahm cited the example of Sir Nick Faldo, who won six majors without achieving the rare feat, saying he’d prefer to have a similar situation. “Obviously, in the sense of let’s say I never achieve it, I’d rather have a situation like Sir Nick Faldo where he has six of two of them instead of having maybe three different ones, if that makes sense.” Rahm’s record at the PGA Championship, one of the four majors, has been relatively weaker compared to his performance in other majors.

Despite being a two-time major champion, Rahm has made eight starts at the PGA Championship and has recorded only two top-10 finishes, with his best being a T4 in 2018. Since tying for eighth in 2021, Rahm has failed to register another top-10 finish, with his recent performances including a T50 in 2023 and a missed cut in 2024 and many believe his poor run in majors is because of his involvement with LIV Golf.

“And if it happens to be The Open or the PGA, then I’ll focus on a possible Grand Slam. But as of right now, I don’t want to think about it too much. But of course, I think it’s a goal for all of us who play the game,” Rahm added. What are your thoughts on Rahm’s mindset? Do you agree with his approach? Let us know in the comment section below!
