The 2022 Mitsubishi Electric Championship came to an end on January 22. Many legends of golf competed against each other, including John Daly and Miguel Angel Jimenez, at the PGA Tour Champions Event. 

The first event of the PGA Tour Champions ended with Miguel Angel Jimenez winning the title. Jimenez is a Spanish golfer who turned pro in 1982. Although he joined PGA Tour in 2000, he never won a Tour title. But, he had won more than 20 International victories in his prime.

Jimenez joined the PGA Tour Champions in 2014 and has since won 11 titles, including the 2022 Mitsubishi Electric Championship. Let’s check out the prize money and other benefits the winner got from the tournament!

Miguel Angel Jimenez won the first prize!

The total purse of the Mitsubishi Electric Championship was $2 million. The winner of the tournament, Miguel Jimenez, won $340,000 from the total purse. The amount of money he and others won will get converted to Charles Schwab Cup points.

Jimenez won the tournament after defeating Steven Alker in the playoffs. Both players scored 17-under after a 54-hole tournament. Both the golfers made par 4 on the 18th hole; however, Alker couldn’t make a 12-footer for par to extend the playoff.

Since there are no cuts in the Champions events, every pro golfer who finished the event will receive their share of prize money. 

How much money did John Daly and others win from the tournament?

The fans were eager to watch Joh Daly at the Champions tournament since it was his first appearance after winning the PNC Championship last year. However, he could only score 4-under and became the 27th golfer in the table. 

Daly was one of the many to receive prize money from the total purse; Daly won $20,500 from the tournament.

Steven Alker, who won the second prize, won $200,000, while Stephen Ames and Vijay Singh, who tied for third, won $125,000 each. Tom Watson and Stephen Dodd, who finished last, won $11,000 each as well.
