Fitzpatrick, who finished at T10 in Augusta last week, walked home with the biggest share of the $20 million prize purse.

Both Fitzpatrick and defending champion Jordan Spieth played in the same group in the final round, ending regulation play on 17-under 267. Spieth shot a 66, and Fitzpatrick carded a three-under 68. The 28-year-old English golfer didn’t emerge victorious until the third hole of the sudden-death playoff.

The victory at Hilton Head is a special one for the golfer, who used to spend his holidays with his family at a resort on the island. Fitzpatrick had earlier revealed that the Harbour Town Golf Links, the turf of the RBC Heritage event, was his favorite golf course aside from the Augusta National.

To put things in perspective, the prize money at RBC Heritage this year is more than the $3.24 million earnings Rahm took home for his Masters victory.
