When did John Daly win his first major tournament?

Daly was 25-years-old when he won his first major event – the 1991 PGA Championship. The now-55-year-old wowed everyone with his win, going on to win another major a few years later.

• Bellsouth Classic in 1994
• The Open Championship in 1995

Daly started his PGA Tour journey in 1986, he did take years to start winning.

Currently, Daly is playing on the Champions Tour. However, the Insperity Invitational in 2017 is his only win while on the PGA Tour Champions yet. Despite that, one cannot look past the influence John Daly has on the tour and fans. Leaving aside his vibrant wardrobe choice, his game has also garnered significant attention from fans.

“He had an Arnold Palmer-type reception out there,” Bruce Lietzke said. He was paired with Daly on Day 3. “Especially on some of those iron shots that were up there a minute and a half and came down by the hole.”

Daly seemed to be over the moon and had managed to impress just about everybody. While he did not win another major soon after 1991, people had already started seeing him as a star. “I can tell you one thing, I’ve done this my way,” Daly said. “I don’t have anybody to blame for this win but me, and I love it.”

Daly’s most recent win was the PNC Championship with his son. Daly shot 27-under 117. Furthermore, he last played the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai while on the Champions Tour.
