Tiger Woods has battled multiple injuries across a career spanning three decades. His valiant effort at the 2008 US Open while suffering an ACL in his left leg is an inspirational story for many. However, looking back at things, it seems Tiger’s left leg gave him too many problems. How did his long list of leg-related injuries begin? Though nobody knows it better than Woods himself, he might have injured it initially in a needless activity while trying to emulate his father, Earl Woods.

What caused the injury to Tiger Woods’ left leg?

While Woods’ faction waived it off by saying the golf legend injured himself while having a run with his dog, many were left unsettled. The reasoning certainly seemed childish enough, a way to sweep the matter under the carpet.

Over the years, various theories have come out. Some people believe Woods injured his knee while power-lifting in the Isleworth weight room, causing irreparable stress to his leg. There are others who believe the 15-time Major Championship winner was wounded after a commercial activity for his principal sponsor, Nike.

However, the most logical reasoning among these is to believe that Woods injured his leg while training with the Navy SEALS. While many have denounced the claim, a recent revelation has all but confirmed the rumor.

Hank Haney reveals what caused Woods’ injury

For the unversed, Hank Haney was Woods’ swing coach during the latter part of the last decade. In an excerpt from his recent book, Hank Haney revealed how training with the Navy SEALS meant Woods took his training regime a notch higher, which eventually resulted in the freakish injury.

Tiger started his SEALS regime after his father, Earl Woods, passed away. The latter served as a lieutenant colonel during his time and served two tours of duty in South Vietnam. For a brief period, it looked like the record-breaking Woods was quitting the sport to pursue an envisioned dream of becoming a Navy SEAL, but he eventually returned to the game, much to the delight of his fans.

Haney revealed that former World No.1 was “inordinately interested in muscle-building,” during which Woods injured his leg while performing Olympic-style lifts. The former coach mentioned that he wasn’t in support of the weighted exercises, but his star disciple insisted on following the regime.

Is this the ‘real’ reason behind Tiger’s injured left leg? There will be no valid answers until Tiger unveils the truth himself, which he might have already had in complete discretion. Whatever the answer may be, the curse has punished Woods with four separate surgeries since. And if it was really the training that had done the damage, Tiger will be lamenting his decision to his deathbed.
