The 2024 AIG Women’s Open is indeed going to be an epic battle. One of the highlights of the event is that while one of the professional golfers will take home the trophy, the best amateur will still be rewarded with a special feat at the end of the championship.

The Smyth Salver Award for amateurs

Each year, international female players compete for the championship trophy, with the low amateur, who plays 72 holes, awarded the Smyth Salver. Last year, it was Charlotte Heath who bagged the award, finishing at T61 with Eun-Her Ji, Ruoning Yin, Cara Gainer, and Jodi Ewart Shadoff. She managed to reach an even par ending only in the second round, but for the other three, she went over par.

Nonetheless, she managed to score a 7-over 295 at the 2023 AIG Women’s Open. She was five strokes ahead of Julia Lopez Ramirez, who finished at 72 with a 12-over. She was the second-best amateur on the field. This year, the top contender for the award is Lottie Woad of England. Are you excited for the fifth major of the season to kick in?
