Nelly Korda is the brightest young talent that America has given to golf. Korda, at the age of 24, has turned into an inspiration to billions of people. The LPGA star rose to prominence at the age of 18 in 2016 when she debuted at the Symetra Tour. She began her career with a victory, a clear sign of a legend in the making.

The win at the Sioux Falls GreatLIFE Challenge paved the way for the LPGA star to become the world’s No. 1 LPGA player. Even after a stellar start, Korda could not win the title of Rookie of the Year.

First Professional win of Nelly Korda

In 2016, Nelly Korda won her first professional competition, the Sioux Falls GreatLIFE Challenge. The young pro fired a final-round 66 to win by three shots at the Sioux Falls GreatLIFE Challenge. With five events remaining after her first professional victory, Korda was immediately ranked 11th in the Volvik Race for the Card Money. Talking about her first professional win, Korda said, “I don’t even have words.” She further added, “Having my first professional win out here is just amazing. The atmosphere today was just amazing. I could not have asked for a better day and a better week.”

The game played by Korda on Sunday during the tournament was short and sweet. The crowd was captivated by her young talent as the rounds progressed. After missing a short birdie putt on the par-5 second, Korda got her round off to a solid start with a chip-in from 25 feet for a birdie on the third. Ever since that win, the former No. 1 has never looked back in her career. Nelly rightfully said, “That definitely gave me a huge, positive boost.”

A roller coaster ride for Korda

The funny thing about sports is, it is ever changing. You might be on top this current moment, a few bad performances and you slide down to the bottom. Year 2021 was the most remarkable year in Korda’s life, she had five major wins that year. She won the title of Atlanta Athletic Club, not only that, she even won a gold medal. She rose to the world’s no. 1 position in LPGA ranking. Clearly, the sun was shining brighter on her. People’s expectation from her rose but who knew what 2022 had in store for her.

Even after constant efforts, Korda was unable to bring her A-game to the golf course in the initial months of 2022. That was not enough; somewhere around March, Korda was diagnosed with a life-threatening blood clot. Being the fighter that she is, she made a comeback three months later, exceeding everyone’s expectations. And her unwavering efforts once again raised her to the world No. 1 position. Talking about it to Golf.com, Nelly said, “Going through what I’ve been through this year and regaining that world No. 1 ranking is really special. It’s definitely been a tough one this year. I’m very grateful.”
