‘I Don’t Mind Dying Penniless’: 82-Year-Old Jack Nicklaus Talked About Controlling His Businesses at an Old Age in 2016

When it comes it being the greatest in the sport of golf, many consider Jack Nicklaus to hold that title for his endless accolades. However, the playing days of the Hall of Famer are long gone, but his commitment to his endeavors isn’t. In a 2016 interview, Nicklaus talked about being involved in business despite being 70-plus years old, and also shed light on the ‘Big Three’.
Jack Nicklaus has one of the most decorated careers in the sport of golf. He has 73 PGA Tour wins, which also include his 18 Major titles, most by any golfer. Following his retirement from the sport, the 82-year-old looked elsewhere to make himself busy.

Jack Nicklaus talked about money and the ‘Big Three’
In 2016, the legendary golfer sat down with CNN to have a deep conversation about life. During the interview, Nicklaus shared his determined work ethic. However, since most people would assume that the 18-time Major winner is still working at the age of 76 to earn, he made his intentions clear.
“It’s not about money for me”, the Hall of Famer said. He added, “I think I passed most of my part of the company off to the kids years ago”. Deeming to his witty humor for which he is renowned, the Golden Bear said, “I don’t mind dying penniless right now – but just not right now”.

Jack Nicklaus then talked about his greatest rivals: Gary Player and Arnold Palmer. The legendary and intriguing competition among the trio was notably tagged as the ‘Big Three‘. However, similar to Nicklaus, his former two opponents also were still active in their businesses in 2016. “We played golf and continued to play for most of our life”, said the Golden Bear.
He further expressed the joy of working with people who like golf, like his past rivals. Moreover, Nicklaus also talked about knowing and enjoying the association with fellow Hall of Famers for many years. The interview occurred in January 2016. However, in September of that year, Arnold Palmer passed away. Perhaps, it could be noted as Nicklaus bidding a farewell to his longtime frenemy.
