Ever since turning pro, John Daly has had his share of ups and downs. However, despite having things falling apart, the ‘bad boy’ of golf has always made sure to resurrect from the odds and come back dazzling in the game. A similar sight was seen recently.

Yet to win a title since the 2021 PNC Championship, Daly is currently playing the Ascension Charity Classic in St. Louis, Missouri. Following the completion of the first round, the tournament, which started yesterday, currently features the 56-year-old on T8. However, little does one know that the T8 finish didn’t come easy for an injured Daly.

John Daly suffers an injury in his first-round campaign

Daly played the first round of the Ascension Charity Classic yesterday. However, that wasn’t the first day of his competitive play at the Norwood Hill Golf Club. A day prior to the main tournament, the former PGA and Open Championship winner played the pro-am tournament.

A tournament, which left him with a pull in his L2 muscle. However, despite the pain, he opted to play the first round of the Ascension Charity Classic.

Following a T8 finish in the first round, Daly indulged in a candid conversation with the press. During the conversation, he gave a brief about his injury. “It’s the L2. I guess I pinched it yesterday on No. 2,” he said. “The pro-am was so long. I waited and I kind of went at a drive. The L2 kind of goes to your private parts and I’ve been hurting since then.”

Daly is known for his hilarious side and his witty answers. This time was no different. Briefing further about his injury to the press, he said, “Your L2 goes to your…and I guess I pulled a muscle in it, and it went to my-huh. I feel like somebody kick me in the n*ts.”

Heading towards the end, the former PGA Tour Rookie of the year, opened up about the time following his injury, terming it as ‘brutal.’ “It’s been like that ever since I played the pro-am yesterday. It was a painful last night and I saw the guys this morning and they kind of stretched me a little bit but, it’s brutal. “

Despite the injury, the bearded man made sure to impress the golf world by finishing the first round at -4. With two days left in the tournament, fans hope to see a bettering result for the American sensation.
