Jack Nicklaus is one of the most revered names in golf history. ‘The Golden Bear’ won 18 major championships in his elusive career, which has etched his name in the sport’s legacy. The 82-year-old was rigorous even after his eventual retirement, be it designing new courses, or expressing his views on the changing golf landscape. However, his workaholic nature isn’t good enough for household work, which was revealed via a hilarious story from Nicklaus’ wife.
Jack Nicklaus makes a fuss in an amusing incident
According to Nicklaus’ wife, 82-year-old Barbara, her husband has a special nickname in the household. “We do call him Handy Jack,” she said. “But the word ‘handy’ probably takes on a different connotation in our family.”

The word ‘handy’ indeed has a catch. She described an incident by which her husband got his nickname. “I asked him to put a cup rack up for me in the kitchen cabinet. Three screws. And, mind you, my dad could do anything, so I just thought all men could do anything,” she said.
“So, 45 minutes later, every cuss word in the book, one screw in sideways, and he said, ‘I give up. If I can’t fix it we’ll call a repair man.”

So Jack Nicklaus can’t do it all, atleast outside the golf course. But the incident portrays his ever-growing love for his wife, with whom he has been wed for ages. But does the surreal winner struggle to contain his frustration?
Jack Nicklaus once broke his club in anger
Always perceived as highly self-confident, Nicklaus hated losing. Nobody likes it, but for someone accustomed to winning, a loss was a major disappointment. His son, Gary Nicklaus, once revealed an incident where his father lost his temper, which resulted in a two-piece 3-wood.

It was from a practice session at Loxahatchee, where Jack Nicklaus had an off day. “We get to the 16th hole, which is a par 5, and my dad tries to hit the second shot, which is to an island green, with a 3-wood. And he hit one in the water. And then he dropped and hit another one in the water. You could see him kind of gritting his teeth,” he said.
“My brother and I just kind of went and walked down the fairway like, ‘Oh, boy. You know what just happened? So he is human.’ … It was very funny to us at the time to see him lose his temper,” he further added.
