Nelly Korda has eight LPGA titles, yet she goes red while recounting her first win. The first win is not her first professional triumph, but rather her very first victory lap in any tournament as an amateur. The 25-year-old listens to the question from GOLF’s Claire Rogers while taking a scoop from her cookie dough. A sheepish smile appears on her face that grows wider before she finally blurts out, “Kind of an embarrassing story.

But Korda had nowhere to hide. She had not told this before and now has to spill her guts. Not easy and the LPGA Icon takes her time. Interestingly, her first win was not in America but rather in Europe. The younger Korda was vacationing in the Czech Republic when she netted her first ‘International’ victory but puked all through the final round.

It was the late 2000s. The landlocked country, as most Central European countries go, was brimming with sunshine in the bedroom and plump peaches in the garden. Staying at her “parents friend’s place,” Nelly Korda let her hair down before the Tournament.

However, once she stepped on the greens the next morning, Korda started getting all the creeps. It “was a nine-hole golf course,” where they “played the nine two times to for it to be 18 holes.” On top of that, Korda was in an older division. The pressure kept mounting up as the tee time drew closer before she couldn’t hold it any longer.

When the announcer called her name, Nelly Korda was so antsy that she “started puking up all the peaches… (J)ust straight peach.” The 25-year-old admits with a peal of embarrassing laughter, that the previous day she “was just downing peaches because they were so good. It was just like a beautiful summer’s day and I was just picking the peaches off of the tree.”

Fortunately, the nine-year-old Korda kept a tub. “I had a bucket on the range and I was just puking into the bucket before my first tee shot,” the 2021 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship winner admits. Nevertheless, she went on to win the Tournament and earned “a bottle of champagne” which, obviously, she gave to her parents. However, this was not the first time Nelly Korda had to share an embarrassing moment from the past.

Nelly Korda had her fair share of awkward stories

In the same interview, Korda also admitted she was the bratty sister among the two. Not too long ago, both sisters sat with the Drop Zone podcast. Jessica Korda revealed they used to boogie down the garage of their Jupiter home. Younger Korda’s signature “cowboy movements.” were a big part of their “very embarrassing” dance regimen.

A flustered Nelly Korda confessed that the video resurfaced with their parents in the audience. Petr Kora and Regina Rajchrtová, apparently, cried out of laughter after watching the 1x Major winner’s dance moves. The peach story is another addition to Korda’s growing resume of awkward stories. Oh, and she still loves peaches. No hard feelings, there!
