‘I Wanted to Be a Dad’: Patrick Reed Specifies Why Did He Move to LIV Golf

Patrick Reed is an American Pro Golf star who plays on the LIV Tour. The athlete recently joined the LIV Series and left the PGA Tour. Reed has made numerous records playing under the PGA Tour, including nine tournament victories.

Reed was recently in a 30-minute session, along with Pat Perez and Brook Koepka. He reasoned about his decision to leave the former tour and join the new Saudi-backed league. Although some of his statements were completely unexpected.

Lots of players have given up their PGA Tour careers and started a new journey on the LIV Tour. The biggest name on the list is Phil Mickelson, followed by former World Number One Dustin Johnson. All these players have left the tour for their reasons. Keep reading to find out what Reed had in mind before he made his choice.

Patrick Reed explains a personal reason to join LIV Golf

In the session, when the interviewers asked Reed about his decision to switch from the older tour to the new league, his answer was completely different and more personal than any other player. He said“Being the guy who’s played 30 to 35 events my entire career and basically living through Facetime watching my kids grow up, I wanted to spend more time with my children. I wanted to be a dad.”

Reed is one of the few players who willingly gave up their PGA Tour memberships and joined the Saudi-funded tour. Unlike other players, the disciplinary ban by the PGA Tour didn’t affect Reed. He chose to speak out about the former tour and shed light on its new actions.

“Now all of a sudden [purses] went skyrocketing back up on the PGA Tour, it just shows that they obviously believe that [LIV] is not only a true threat, but a great tour as well if they’re going and copying what we’re doing,” Reed said. It was about the newly announced prize money by the PGA Tour. PGA recently added $54 million in the purse size for all premier events, which was a way to stand against big LIV purses.

Reed suggested PGA listens to the golfers

The questions also included a major query that each new LIV player has to answer. It was – what could PGA do to retain its players? The player gave a one-statement reply to it and said“Listen to the players,” and nothing more. When asked to explain further, he compared both the tours and said that PGA should do everything that LIV has done.
