After five years of a winless drought, Grayson Murray has finally won a PGA Tour event. The 30-year-old triumphed in the Sony Open at Wai’alae Country Club in a remarkable manner. He defeated the likes of Keegan Bradley and Byeong Hun An in the playoffs with a birdie.

After clinching his hard-earned victory through various struggles, Murray emotionally talked about how it was not easy and said, “I wanted to give up a lot of times, give up on myself, give up on the game of golf, give up on life at times.” But he persevered through it all.

Murray then credited all the glory to Jesus and his fiancee. The 2x PGA Tour winner said, “Jesus Christ is first and foremost. Without him, none of this would be possible.” It is he who has provided Murray with a platform and given him a chance to write his story. Moreover, the two-time PGA Tour winner also hoped he had inspired at least one person.

The second victory means a lot to Murray, as he went through a struggling period before it. From questioning his game to winning it again, Murray has come a long way. However, the path to success was not easy, as there were two major hindrances he had to overcome.

Murray’s struggle through his life and career

Grayson Murray debuted in 2017 and won the same year. But that was his last victory before the Sony Open. During this period, met his first major hurdle—alcoholism. At the very same Waialae Country Club, the two-time PGA Tour champ was involved in an incident while drunk.

Murray got into an altercation with the PGA Tour and expressed his dissatisfaction. However, later he decided to seek help and accepted his shortcomings, as he explained on Twitter. At the post-win presser, Murray revealed that he used to arrive hungover at matches and sometimes play through them. However, before his final round of class act, he also revealed that he was eight months sober now.

Another thing that blocked his growth was the 2022 scooter accident in Bermuda. Murray described it as his lowest point in life. That day, he had endured around 50 stitches on his face and the rest of his body. After the accident, he went through rehabilitation and fully recovered from it.
