‘I Was in Tears’: Lydia Ko Spills Everything About Her Fiancé and Credits Him for Everything

The New Zealand-born professional golfer Lydia Ko won the 2022 CME Group Tour Championship, the season-end LPGA Tour event, on November 20. She also won the Player of the Year award, a second in her career, and the Vare Trophy the second year in a row. Nonetheless, nothing would have made her happier if the love of her life was not present at the moment. 

“When I won in Korea, he wasn’t there,” she said in the press meet after Tour Championship. “I was in tears,” she further added. “Because I wish I could, like, celebrate that special moment with him.”

Ko won the 2022 BMW Ladies Championship in Korea last month, which, according to her, her fiancé Chung Jun couldn’t attend. And he made up for it by being present and supporting her at the Tour Championship held in Florida.

Reports suggested that Ko and Hyundai Card Vice Chairman Chung Tae-young’s youngest son, Chung Jun, got engaged. Later, the golfer confirmed the news, although she didn’t disclose the wedding date. 

“I wanted to win in front of him, win, like, for him,” the 2022 Tour championship champion told the media. “But I think just to be able to celebrate such a special moment with my loved ones,” she continued, “just makes it extra meaningful.”

Ko’s mother might jokingly say that she was a better player when she was fifteen. However, with her second win at the Tour Championship, the Kiwi proved that she still has what it takes to be the best. And winning it in front of the love of her life made it extra special. 

Chung Jun is a perfect fit for the LPGA Tour golfer

Ko implied that winning or losing wouldn’t change her relationship with her soon-to-be husband. Because she knows he will be there to “put a smile” on her face when she needs it the most. 

Her highest score this season was 79, whereas she has scored as low as 63 and 65, too, in this season. According to her, his mindset towards her wouldn’t change based on her ups and downs.“He will always love me and talk to me the same way,” Ko explained. Moreover, she said, “having met him, I feel like he is introspective in life and my golf. ” 

The 25-year-old is in love with and engaged to a man of many qualities. She also has nothing but praise for him, which makes us all wonder how she found this gem of a person. 

Where did Ko and her fiancé meet for the first time? 

Lydia Ko is famous in the golf world for being a former world no. 1 golfer and one of the best among the new-generation golfers. However, less to nothing information had been available online about her.

But she opened up about her relationship and where she met her husband-to-be for the first time at the Tour Championship winner’s press meet. “It was just before my win in Hawaii,” Ko revealed.

The golfer won the Lotte Championship at the Ko Olina Golf Club in Kapolei, Hawaii, in 2021. Hence, we can conclude that she met her “luck charm,” something her LPGA members called him at the time, in April 2021.

Lydia Ko is a player that all junior players look up to because of her golfing skill. While she tries to raise their expectations by winning events, her fiancé stays by her side as a support system.
