Nicklaus once shared the time he missed making the cut. The golfing sensation cautioned modern players against Masters-induced slumps.

He talked about the experience in a nostalgic tone. He said, “That was a humbling experience to miss the cut after you’ve won it twice in a row. But then the next couple of years, I think that it probably destroyed the rest of my year. Because I was so disappointed at not winning at Augusta that I had a downer most of the year.”

In retrospect, that one time that Jack lost, did affect his game a few times after as well. Nicklaus did not make the cut in 1967. According to him, it took almost three years for him to recover from losing the Masters.

Jack said, “I put such a buildup to this tournament and the importance of winning that first major that it was to my detriment more times than a positive.”

However, that was not the end for Jack. He figured out his way around it, and surmounted the streaks of bad luck.
