Michael Phelps retired from a decorated career in swimming aged 31. Still fit, he has channeled his energy toward various activities. One of them is being good at golf, and he has certainly worked his way at the gym to build a body good enough for a long drive. He showed that off against PGA golfer, Justin Thomas, recently and went through some of the exercises with him.

The two worked on their core exercises and lifted weights. “Now I’m trying to, I guess, make those muscles a lot bigger because I didn’t have to use some of those muscles when I was swimming,” Phelps mentioned.

The 23-time Olympic Gold medalist has bulked up since retiring after the Summer Olympics in 2016. “I have to be engaged here,” Phelps said on his mindset. “Every single day I’m in the zone. I’m a psycho when I come in here.”

What separates Phelps and Thomas in terms of their exercises?

While Phelps is working on his core and flexibility in order to build his body according to golf standards, Justin revealed he uses a stretch band in his warm-up to get a good swing. He gets it done by shadow-acting a golf swing till his shoulder blade is stable, which Thomas said helps build up muscle memory.

Towards the end, Phelps summarized the experience by saying “two different athletes in two different sports” to which Thomas quipped “and very similar bodies.” It roared the entire room in laughter which JT had no clue about!

While Phelps will continue to try to make a mark on golf at an amateur level, Thomas is currently pursuing the season-ending Tour Championship and was in contention to win the tournament on the final day of the event.
