

The LPGA has seen many young players play extremely well, but there are two who stand a step above the rest: Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson. Both are exceptionally talented and skilled. They both joined the LPGA as teenagers after racking up a lot of wins as amateurs. Lexi is two years older than Ko. She also joined the LPGA a year before Lydia did. She once even had some advice for Ko, a former teenager turned pro.

Thompson sings Ko’s praises
In an interview with Golf.com, in 2014, Lexi was asked, having already been in her position, if she had any advice for Ko. Lexi laughed and said, “It seems like I’m kind of a veteran now,” and then went on to praise Lydia.

She called Ko “a great player” and said that they had both played together a bit already. Thompson also admired Ko’s composure on the course and said, “Very poised on the golf course.” “You can’t even tell if she’s playing bad or good, and I think that’s a great attitude to have on the golf course.”

Lexi also went on to talk about Ko’s golf skills. She said that Lydia was a very consistent and hardworking player, and Lexi thought she would shine in the LPGA. She said, “I think she’ll do well out there.”
Lexi’s advice for Lydia Ko
Lexi had some advice for Lydia too; she warned her of the “hard road” that lay ahead. She said, “It’s a lot of travelling, long flights, but I think she can handle it.” Lexi then went on to talk about the work she’ll need to put in. “It’s a lot of hard work; you got to practice,” she said.

She then went on to point out that Lydia was already practicing hard and putting in the hours. She stated, “Every time I see her out there, she’s doing hard work in those practice rounds.” Lydia certainly practiced hard and went on to surpass Thompson herself in trophies and wins.

Lydia, now 25, has two majors (one more than Lexi) and 18 LPGA Tour victories. She recently also won the Race to the CME Globe and the $2 million check that came with it. She currently ranks second in the world, and is undoubtedly looking to take the top spot with a few more wins next season.
