Niall Horan speaks about his contribution to golf

All his life, Niall has been a big fan and supporter of golf. It has also helped him bond with his father as a young boy. Being vocal about his love for the sport in 2019, Horan told Golfweek, “I’m obviously a golf nut. If I didn’t do music I would have loved to have been a golfer myself. I’ve always been mad into it.”

Horan appears in the December 2023 issue of Bunkered as the cover star, for which he has given a candid interview to the golf magazine. In the interview, he expressed the hope that his association with golf will encourage young girls to participate more in the sport.

Niall says in the interview, “I always say this but, you know, I’ve got 40 million Twitter followers and a few more on Instagram. If my posting about golf here and there makes just one percent of my followers take an interest in golf, well, look, I’m no mathematician, but it’s a lot!” The Irish singer understands the power he has over his fan base and is using it positively to promote golf.

The singer-songwriter rose to prominence as part of the massively famous boy band One Direction. From 2010 to 2015, Horan and the other band members delivered many chartbusters and ruled the hearts of millions of fans. After the band split in 2015, its members went their own way and created equally successful solo careers. As for Niall, he worked on accomplishing his golfing dreams simultaneously while making music.

He has also supported golf initiatives such as the Drive Chip Putt in America to support and encourage the next generation of golfers to break through. He has also worked closely with the R&A as their ambassador. A few months ago, the singer backed their new initiative called ‘Golf.Golf’, which is a new digital platform with the objective of attracting more people to the sport.
