No one knows what to expect in golf when numerous top plates are struggling to make the cut at The Players Championship. While some PGA Tour professionals, who the fans have barely ever heard about, are making it look so easy for them. There has been a lot going on at the TPC Sawgrass Golf course. And one thing that has grabbed the attention of all fans is the recently broken Arnold Palmer record by this Tour professional.

The PGA Tour lost several talented players to the LIV Golf league when Greg Norman made lucrative offers to the players. On the brighter side, this gave some other tour players a chance to bring up their best game and actually get noticed for the first time. And that is how it went for the 56-year-old PGA Tour star who recently did something no one else could have imagined.

Fans are well aware of how skilled Arnold Palmer was as a golfer. Counted among the legends in the game, Palmer once made the cut in the Players Championship at the age of 55 years, 6 months, and 19 days in 1985, precisely. However, the record is no longer unbeaten after PGA Tour’s Jerry Kelly made the cut this year at the age of 56 years, 3 months, and 16 days. Shocking, isn’t it?

Kelly opened his first round with 74-72 and bogeyed his final hole in the second round on Friday. However, he managed to make the cut after Eric Cole two-putted his last hole on Saturday. Kevin Van Valkenburg from the “No Laying Up” podcast asked the golfer if trying that hard to make the cut was to validate his exemption. But in response to the question, Kelly said, “No.”

“It shows me maybe I shouldn’t be here because I’m struggling to make the cut. I’m slumming it here this week.”, the golfer added. As of now, Kelly has been playing better than numerous top players on the field at the Player Championship. With Rory McIlroy being sent home so quickly, one can imagine the level of competition the tournament carries. On the other hand, former World No. 1, Scottie Scheffler, is leading the field with a total score of 14 under. And fans are cheering for the player to make it through the final round with the same distant lead.
