‘I’m Still Deathly Afraid…’: Billionaire Tiger Woods, Who Credits His Parents for Shaping His Career, Once Revealed Who Held the ‘Hand’ In the Family

Tiger Woods has achieved ample success in his life. The golfer is always humble about his achievements and rarely takes any credit for them. However, the ones responsible for his success since the beginning of his career according to him are his parents. Woods once talked about the role his parents played in helping him reach the heights he has reached today.

Tiger Woods sheds light on his relationship with his parents

According to the golf legend, all the credit for his success in golf goes to his parents Earl and Kultida Woods. He describes them as his guiding lights. In most cases, the child faces ease in talking to his mother more than his father. However, it was the opposite in Woods’ case.

“As we said in our family, my mom was the hand, and my dad was the voice. I could negotiate with him, but not with my mom. There was no middle ground with Mom,” Woods wrote in ‘The 1997 Masters: My Story.’ He added“My dad was always the person who would plant seeds and give me encouragement but also would say things that would fester inside me that wouldn’t come to fruition for a while,”

Woods also talked about how he was never scared of his dad, but still has to think twice before speaking up to his mom. “My dad may have been in the Special Forces, but I was never afraid of him. My mom’s still here, and I’m still deathly afraid of her.” Woods said. He also mentioned that his mother is a ‘tough old lady’ and how he loves her unconditionally despite her being tough on him.

Woods’ father passed away at 74 years of age

Earl Woods, who was also Tiger Woods’ golf mentor, passed away at the age of 74 in 2006. The cause of his death was his cancer that returned in 2004. Sr. Woods also had heart issues, diabetes, and poor blood flow in his legs.

Earl Woods was the one who taught the game of golf to his son Tiger Woods. Tiger once shared how he had an amazing bond with his old man. He stated that his father was very strict when giving him golf lessons, and didn’t let his fatherly instincts pop out during training.
